The North-West corner of the Roman Empire was Maryport, Cumbria (see map)where the Romans had a fort from which they patrolled the western end of Hadrian’s Wall, and a town. You can visit the remains of the fort, even today.

Of course they knew the fort by a different name: Alauna. In later centuries the town was known as Ellenfoot, until 1749, when the local businessman, Humphrey Senhouse, renamed it after his wife Mary.

So it was as far as Mary went …. but it did not take her name for 1700 years.
